Trip to Iceland 2009

Iceland is a motorcycle destination that I have talked about doing for a number of years, but whenever I looked into trying to organize a trip over there I could never seem to find any companies that would rent a motorcycle out to me for a few weeks. Anyone who had done a motorcycle trip to Iceland seemed to have come over by ferry boat from one of the Scandinavia countries aboard their own vehicles.
For North Americans, this did not leave us with many options except to air freight (very expensive) a bike over to the island. Also anyone familiar with Iceland previous to their economic meltdown would know that it was a very expensive place to visit. Times have changed, over the last few years a number of companies have sprung up offering to hire out motor bikes to the visitng tourists with an interest in motorcycling.
For my trip to Iceland I contacted RIDINGICELAND. This outfit has a number of bikes for rent, including dual purpose bikes like the Kawasaki 650 KLR, Suzuki VStrom DL 650 and the Yamaha XT 660. After some discussion with the owner Haddi I settled on the Suzuki VStrom DL 650 as my choice of vehicle for my ride around Iceland.
