Trip to Iceland 2009
My flight from Ottawa via Halifax arrived into the captial of Reykjavik at about 5:30 in the morning. After clearing customs and immigation, I caught a bus from the airport into Reykjavik. Haddi from RIDINGICELAND was at the bus terminal to meet me and drive me out to his motorcycle shop. By 9:00 that morning I had my gear sorted out and packed onto the Suzuki VStrom. Haddi was good enough to escort me out of town and get me headed in the right direction for the start of my trip around Iceland. There is only one major roadway in Iceland and that is Hwy #1 or the Ring-Road, which courses its way around the perimeter of the Island for about 900 miles. Except for a few sections, most of the Ring-Road is paved and in good condition. There are other roads and trails that traverse across the interior of the island, most of these roads are passable with either a 4x4 vehicle or a dual purpose motorcycle. I had planned on taking 8 days to get around the Island of Iceland, this would give me enough time to explore most of what Iceland has to offer. My itinerary for the first day of my trip was to ride around the "Golden Circle" or at least parts of it. The Golden Circle is a popular tourist loop out from Reykavik . A number of of the more popular tourist stops can be found along this route, including the national park
